For quite sometime now I've been meaning to write my own stories that I hope to get published and maybe even adapted into other forms of media: High Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, Mystery, and Adventure themed particularly for kids, but also captivating enough to grab older audiences.
For now I decided to write a pitch I call, The Diary of Avril. It's about a girl named Catilan who discovers a spellbook inside an abandoned cottage, and upon reading an incantation she summons a spiritual being named Avril. (I posted a couple concepts for Catilan, I still have yet to post Avril and other characters) It's sort of a horror/mystery story inspired by Coraline, Stranger Things, Beetlejuice, TinTin, Trollhunters, Death Note, Goosebumps, and the old Weird Tales stories from the early 20th Century. Catilan will serve as the main protagonist, with Avril being the secondary one, (in fact Avril will be to Catilan what Ryuk was to Light Yagami, not evil per say but she does have a sinester background to her) Avril will serve as a mentor to Catilin as she uncovers strange and gothic phenomenons that happen and have been happening before hand in her hometown, including espionage, cults, other worlds, and the appearances of creatures and other characters. (like Kesley, yeah she's in this story to)
It'll embue elements of gothic horror, mystery, adventure, fantasy, and even lovecraftian horror for (what I hope to be) a provocative story with plenty of scary or suspenseful imagery to entice the audience.
I'm thinking the Neil Gaiman approach to writing fictional horror for younger audiences, while also taking the Death Note and Stranger Things approach at making the adults and other characters just as compelling and competent so they don't seem benine. (I want to subvert the useless adults trope we see in most kids stories)
While I'll be writing that, I might also try my hand at writing for other stories.
I may even share a sneak preview of the ones I'm working on now and see what you lot think so far, in case if it needs improvement.
It won't be easy (since I'm not much of a writer) but I do think this will be a good direction for me as an entertainer.
"Nikolas was messed up and needed help. The real problem is mental health, guns don't kill people."
I don't deny Nikolas may have had a troubled life and may well have been a victim of circumstance, but hat still doesn't change that guns can fall into the wrong hands.
"The supposed teens were merely card reading or outright lying."
Yeah the same teens who experienced a tragedy themselves in the same area... it was all arouse.
"They falsely accuse Nikolas of being a member of a white nationalist group. Clearly the media yet is playing with us"
I think there is some evidence to tell us otherwise, and indeed the former is the case.
"Black people make up the majority of shootings."
That's astounding when you consider black people only make up 20% of the us population. And even then there have been recent ratios that suggest more shootings in the US tend to be white more than black. And even if that is the case, don't you think maybe it's because THEY may be victims of circumstance, living in communities the government put them in and screwed over in the first place thus leading to these unstable communities?
"Humans are susceptible to death, and that affects their psychology!"
"So the media thinks that by reminding us of our mortality with gun shootings so they can promote gun control. But a lot of proud gun owners would never do such a thing"
First of all, NO! Secondly, I don't doubt that most people who own guns legally would never commit such things (although why they'd keep them in the first places is beyond me) but that doesn't change the fact that anyone can possess those weapons legally or illegally; and even then we're not going to get rid of all the guns or prevent everyone from legally obtaining one.
"We tend to stereotype outgroups in the heat of tragic situations"
That's not always the case, and in even then that wouldn't stop some of us from trying to understand the other group.
"Liberals seem to enjoy seeing someone act stereotypical"
Um... no! Not really.
"Look he's crying let's burn the Constitution!" is not going to be affective in changing others to abandon their guns."
Again... No Crap! But again it's not about getting rid of all the guns!
"They don't know what needs to be done just something!"
It's rational, after all most civilians don't have the same power of authority or politics as police, military, or government representatives. What can we do other than let our voices be heard? Actually I do think we know plenty of things that can be done, we just need people to hear us out.
"None of us like to think about death!"
Once and for all, No Crap. But that's not the point of the current situation, the situation is that there are people who can obtain guns, be it legally or illegally, and can use them to harm others. Of course not all gun owners would do that, but there are people who would do that who can find ways of obtaining those weapons, and that's what Gun Control is for. Not to keep everyone from having a gun, just the people who would use them to assault others; and there are ways of doing just that.
Either way, yeah people are afraid and they are right to be; they're afraid for their own sake sure, but they are also afraid for the well being of others, and it's because we're afraid of what happens, that makes us worry for other individuals as well the law, and we do naturally want to do something about it and try and make it better. Sure it doesn't always work out, especially when that fear delves into hatred and makes us no better than the perps, but we as thinking social animals are more than capable of re-routing that fear to motivate us to achieve something better for society
